About Elisha Mugerwa

Elisha Mugerwa is a surrealist and hyperrealist self-made visual artist from Uganda who specializes in charcoal-based artworks and mixed tonal studies. His artistic journey began in primary school, growing from a natural interest in drawing into a deep personal passion that pushes charcoal to its creative limits.

For Elisha, art is a vital sanctuary—a place where he feels included, and free from judgment. It serves as his primary tool for self-expression, allowing him to translate his inner ideas and emotions onto the canvas as a true reflection of who he is.

Describing himself as a solitary person with an "overthinking mind," Elisha creates work that speaks to the hidden feelings of his generation. He focuses on human figures within his own age bracket, often placing them against blank, plain backgrounds. This distinct style highlights the reality of those who live solitary lives, exploring deep questions of identity, sadness, and happiness that are often difficult to explain. In doing so, he wants to show the world the reality of those who live a solitary life and to explore the connection between these figures and nature.

Beyond his canvas, Elisha is driven by a vision to build a supportive community of artists working together. His goal is to create a sustainable art system that benefits society while connecting with creative communities across the globe.
