Meaning
Everything in this artwork represents the mind. The face speaks of emotion, yet the calm on his face seems strangely detached from the reality around him. The subject is caught in the heat of pressure and turbulence, which the bubbles churning through the water convey. Troubles of every kind close in on him, and the hands reaching from both sides suggest as much. Even so, he is at rest in the midst of it all.
The colours speak of good and ill omens. Red evokes blood and the violent wind he struggles against, while blue stands for light and blessing. Both are within reach, but he must choose well.
This piece is an encouragement to anyone enduring hardship or fighting their own demons. It says: "Yes, you can find peace in turmoil."
