Meaning:
"The Union of Contraries" represented by two sunflowers side-by-side symbolizes the celebration of human complementarity which shows that the greatest strength is born from the balance between two opposite aspects which are individuality and connection.
The proximity of the two sunflowers creates an image of superior luminous intensity, which affirms that the Union of Contraries allows us to shine not through the fusion of one flower into another, but through the harmonious coexistence of the two flowers in a space each having a distinct posture with the goal of complementing each other to create a vibrant work.
Each individual, just like these sunflowers, must seek to know themselves, develop their own capacities, increase their own value before creating a connection that will be beneficial to others and not approach others to exhaust them.
Individuality: The dark and textured heart of the flowers represents our inner life (reflection, silence, doubts). It contrasts with the bright yellow petals that symbolize our energy turned towards the world (joy, affirmation, extraversion). Through the painting, the artist shows that it is not possible to radiate outward without having an inner depth to propel us.
The Union of each sunflower is autonomous, showing that it is capable of seeking the light by itself.
Connection: The two sunflowers stand so close that they seem to shade each other, illustrating a form of shared dependence and vulnerability.
It demonstrates that great brilliance does not come from isolation, but from the choice to be together, because one does not lose their identity by uniting; on the contrary, one gains in stature and resilience thanks to the presence of the other.
The shadows: Deep shadows under the petals and in the foliage are used to bring out the yellow light.
In human experience, light (joy) can only be as bright and visible in contrast with moments of difficulty. The two flowers rise above this duality, showing that even our shadowy parts are necessary for our light to truly shine.
